Bendon is a much loved, iconic New Zealand company with a history dating back 72 years. We are unique in that we design, manufacture and sell our own products including Pleasure State, Heidi Klum Intimates, Fayreform, Lovable, Fredericks of Hollywood and of course Bendon. 

We have recently undertaken a review of our operating model and have made the decision to create one global head office back here in Auckland, New Zealand.  We are now recruiting 30 roles across Merchandise, Planning, Sourcing, Retail Operations and Marketing

The GM Retail Australia & NZ role exists to implement an effective retail strategy that will further grow and develop Bendon's Retail business across Australia & New Zealand.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer this role will have the responsibility to effectively engage, lead and support the Retail teams, and will have direct accountability for the Retail business including financial, people and operations.  This includes optimising existing & future new sites, delivery of retail growth, driving a high-performance sales culture and ensuring a lift in sales results

Other Key Responsibilities:

Deliver continued revenue growth in all channels to achieve ANZ Country sales budgets and all GP targets. Ensure EBIT, weekly and monthly sales budgets for the stores/regions are consistently measured against Forecast and previous year, and remedial action put in place if required. Weekly/monthly discussions are held with Regional Managers to review store performance.

Drive and deliver operational initiatives to improve all operational requirements, including productivity, conversion rates, customer service, stock & cash loss. Reviewing customer demand by brand and forecasting future supply. Work with global allocation and supply planners to ensure ANZ stores have optimal stock and are utilising high-level stock opportunities.

Ensure expenditure budgets are being controlled and monitored and ensure all stores across ANZ are delivering expected results in Brand benchmarks. Manage Budgets and ensure re-forecasts are set and realigned where necessary.

Seek opportunities for future growth and potential new store sites including visiting potential growth areas and potential new sites & locations. Manage current store refits and refurbs, and work with Regional Managers to refurb or refit as per budgetary approvals. Negotiating lease agreements, renewals and ensuring terms adhered to with minimal financial impact

Build, review and analyse NZ specific marketing & promotional strategies to enable success. Collaborate with the wholesale team on brand strength and understanding high selling products. Elevate brands and company-owned stores beyond discount strategy by ensuring marketing, promotional calendars and visual merchandising are updated and in line with customer demands.

Collaborate with HR and Regional Managers on succession plans, streamline recruitment methods and continual training to promote teamwork and foster collaboration between different teams and departments. Monitor all vacancies on a weekly basis with Regional Managers, and review reasons for turnover.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding leader, developing a clear vision, and managing the team to meet its goals and KPI's. They will have a track record of high performance, creating an environment with open communication and culture, and providing guidance and coaching that inspires and motivates

Other Skills and Experience Sought:

  • Leader with established success in a similar role within the retail industry
  • Ability to embrace, lead change and take the team on the journey
  • Success in building, implementing and leading a clear retail strategy
  • Clear understanding of financial budgets and forecasting as well as the impact of this to the business
  • Knowledge of the intimate apparel industry and current market trends
  • Commercially savvy with the ability to build relationships across a number of platforms
